ABOUT US
Thinking Beyond Meaning
The Meridian Essay Prize is India's first structured essay writing competition designed to cultivate thinking potential in students from Grade IX through university level. In a landscape where education too often rewards memorisation over meaning, this competition is a deliberate counter — a space where an argument well-constructed matters more than an answer well-remembered.
"The purpose of The Meridian Essay Prize is simple: to give Indian students a legitimate arena to think in public — and to be rewarded for thinking well, not just for knowing much."
The Act of Writing
We believe that writing an essay is not merely an academic exercise. It is the act of taking a position, defending it, examining it from multiple angles, and communicating it with clarity and conviction.
Expansion Arenas
Edition I opens with Economics. Future editions will expand the arena to Political Science, Psychology, International Relations, and Sociology.
These are the skills that define great economists, policymakers, lawyers, and thinkers — and they are almost entirely absent from Indian exam culture.
EDITION I — NOW OPEN
Economics
Contemporary topics related to macro & micro economics, developmental economics, trade, and resource allocation.
EDITION II — COMING SOON
Expanding the arena
Future editions will open to a wider range of disciplines as the competition grows.
Political Science · Psychology · Int. Relations · Sociology

The Meridian Essay Prize was created with a shared belief: young people should have the opportunity to question ideas, engage with complex issues, and develop the confidence to express their thinking.
The competition is built by three partners-360 ONE, PeakPotentia and Viral Doshi Associates who bring together complementary perspectives, with a common commitment to encouraging thoughtful, independent and well-reasoned writing.
